Shelter From the Inner Storm
Isaiah 25:4-5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Isaiah 25 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage portrays God as a steadfast refuge for the poor and distressed, and as one who quells inner storms and heat, promising the downfall of threatening forces.
Neville's Inner Vision
Beloved, the 'thou' of Isaiah speaks as your own consciousness. The poor and distressed are not distant others but states you have allowed to be fed by imagination; the storm and heat are conditions of mind that threaten to overwhelm. To the one who dwells in the I AM, you are the fortress standing against the blast of the terrible ones; you are the shadow that cools the dry place of fear. The 'noise of strangers' is the clamor of uncertain thoughts; the branch of the terrible ones that shall be brought low is the old conviction that you are separated from your power. In this light, deliverance is not coming from outside but arising within as you recognize your own sovereignty—the calm mind, the sheltering awareness that never leaves you. When you assume the role of the shelter, the storm quiets, heat recedes, and the harsh forces are lowered to insignificance by the presence of your true Self.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, rest attention on the I AM, and declare 'I am the shelter from the storm' until you feel the inner fortress rise and the heat fade into a cooling shadow of peace. Let the fear's noise dissolve as you dwell in that assured presence.
