The verses depict people retreating to rock caves in reverent fear of the LORD, then discarding their gold and silver idols.
Neville's Inner Vision
See that the LORD and his majesty are not distant governors but your own I AM appearing as awe. When the earth trembles in Isaiah’s vision, hear it as the inner upheaval of beliefs you have mistaken for reality. The caves and holes are the habits of retreat you live in when fear arises; the idols of silver and gold are the fixed ideas you deemed essential. As you become aware of the inner light, you throw these idols to the ground—moles and bats represent the unconscious parts that thrived on secrecy and worship of comfort. Fear is converted into reverent attention to the real you: the awareness that cannot be moved by circumstance. The shaking waves you feel are the old you dissolving, making space for the enduring I AM to stand forth. Your world rearranges itself to reflect what you now know as true: you are the Lord within, and the fear you once worshipped dissolves into gratitude for the inner majesty.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, declare 'I am the I AM' and feel that awareness as your only reality; in your imagination, visualize stepping out of a rocky cave into a bright chamber where your old idols fall away.
