Inner Trees Rejoice Within
Isaiah 14:8 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Isaiah 14 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Fir and cedar announce the ruler is laid down; when you lay down the old king within, the inner world feels released and safe from attack.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the verse as a scene in your own consciousness. The thou is not a person but a state of ruling—an idea you think protects you by force. The fir trees and cedars are your steadfast faculties of perception and order, standing in the forest of your mind. When you decide, in the I AM that you are, to lay down that old king—let him sink into the ground of your awareness—the feller cannot climb up against you anymore. The feller is fear, scarcity, and the habit of protection. As soon as you revoke the claim that danger must be met with force, the inner trees rejoice, because they no longer need to fear being cut down. The kingdom described is not external; it is the harmony of your own imagination when it ceases to fight. In this moment you re-create your world by the recognition that you are the I AM, and that your thoughts are the forest whose order thrives when the old tyrant is gone.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, repeat I lay down the old king within and sense it as done. Then visualize the inner forest, tall firs and cedars celebrating, the air clear and calm, and know that no feller can threaten this kingdom while you remain the I AM.
