Grapes in the Wilderness Within
Hosea 9:9-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Hosea 9 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
These verses speak of deep corruption and the coming judgment. They depict Israel like grapes in the wilderness that turn to Baalpeor instead of true worship, inviting us to see these images as inner states rather than distant history.
Neville's Inner Vision
Forget a tale about nations and kings; feel that Hosea is presenting the inner weather of your own mind. Gibeah stands for a moment when you yield to fear or self-importance and call it life, a splitting away from your true I AM. Instead of worshiping the living God in you, you bow to Baalpeor-like cravings—desire, approval, or image—until you have separated yourself from the one true consciousness that remembers you as whole. The memory of iniquity is your mind rehearsing old pictures, but consciousness cannot be altered by repeating them; it is only altered when you reverse your attention and give it to the I AM that never changes. The grapes in the wilderness symbolize the moments when your inner field bears fruit only when you acknowledge your present spiritual state, not when you chase after substitutes; the abominations are merely the loves you cling to, which you can relinquish by turning toward the inward light. When you accept that your present awareness is the ruler of all you see, you release the past and awaken to an unshakable peace.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and dwell in the I AM as your sole reality. Assume the feeling that this moment is the full garden, revise past guilt by declaring I AM the only power here, and see the wilderness bloom with fruit in your consciousness.
