Mercy Over Sacrifice Within

Hosea 6:5-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Hosea 6 in context

Scripture Focus

5Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
6For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Hosea 6:5-6

Biblical Context

God's dealings are described as judgments that illuminate, delivered through prophets. Yet the true desire is mercy and knowledge of God, not sacrifices.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the I AM as the living speaker within you. Hosea's words describe judgments that proceed like light from your own inner word—the prophets are the states of consciousness you have allowed to govern you. When you feel condemned by your thoughts, remember that those judgments illuminate your true being rather than punish it. The divine desire is mercy and the knowledge of God, which is simply awareness itself—the recognition that you are the living God in expression. To practice this, revise your scene: in the present moment, replace blame with mercy, and view another or yourself through the lens of absolute awareness. Feel the light of judgment transmuting into compassion; let your heart embrace the knowledge of God as your awareness, not as distant offerings. Thus the contrast of judgment and mercy dissolves into a single act of consciousness—your choosing to be the mercy you seek, and your awareness confirming it.

Practice This Now

Practice: Sit in stillness and affirm I AM as the light of your reality. Then revise a current scene by replacing judgment with mercy, and feel the knowledge of God—the awareness you are—rising in you.
