Biblical Context
Hebrews 12:2–3 invites us to fix our gaze on Jesus as the source and completer of faith, who endured the cross for joy and sits in divine rule. It cautions us to keep watch over our minds so we do not grow weary amid opposition.
Neville's Inner Vision
Imagine that the 'Jesus' in this text is not a distant historical figure, but the I AM principle within you—your indivisible awareness that is both author and finisher of faith. When you acknowledge that consciousness, you discover that faith is not a demand placed on you from without, but a state you occupy by attention. The 'joy set before Him' is the vivid joy you choose to imagine as already yours; by dwelling there, you endure present trials without flinching, for imagination is the motive power that makes the unseen real. The cross and the shame symbolize outward conditions and judgments; you despise them not by denial, but by turning away from their illusion and remaining true to your inner vision. To be 'set down at the right hand of the throne of God' is to locate yourself in the throne-room of your own awareness, where all things are possible. 'Consider him'—watch the mental movements that oppose you and choose instead the steady, quiet faith that is never tired. If your mind flags, revise the scene until you feel the victory already accomplished.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Select a pressing situation and, with eyes closed, declare I am the author and finisher of my faith; imagine the joy of its completion and feel it as real now.
