Biblical Context
Hebrews invites us to see a surrounding cloud of witnesses and to lay aside every weight and sin, running with patience the race set before us. By looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, we endure the cross with joy and sit at the right hand of God.
Neville's Inner Vision
Imagine the cloud of witnesses not as distant spectators but as the vivid states of consciousness you have inhabited and can re-enter. The weights and sin are not outer forces but beliefs you have accepted about yourself; set them aside by refusing to identify with them. The race is your ongoing pattern of attention—run it with patience, for patience here is the steady focus of the I AM that you are. Look unto Jesus—the author and finisher of faith—not as a separate person but as the living principle of creative awareness within you, beginning and completing every image you entertain. For the joy that is set before you is the end your imagination has already created; endure the cross of resistance by consenting to the end in your present awareness, despising the ego's shame and returning your throne to God inside. When you train your mind to dwell in that end, you do not chase results—you align with them and watch them flow into your experience.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, and, as a first step, assume you are already the unweighted, joyful runner; hold that feeling in the chest and imagine the desired end as now, then breathe and let it settle into your day.
