The Inner Oil of Joy

Hebrews 1:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Hebrews 1 in context

Scripture Focus

9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Hebrews 1:9

Biblical Context

The verse proclaims that loving righteousness and hating iniquity calls forth God's blessing; anointing with the oil of gladness elevates the beloved above their peers.

Neville's Inner Vision

To the seeker within, this verse is a map of consciousness. God is not a distant ruler but the I AM you are aware of; when you align with righteousness—the steady living of the spiritual law—you hate what violates the divine order. The 'oil of gladness' is not a reward outside you but the felt experience of harmony flooding your awareness, a state of buoyant certainty that you are accepted and protected by your own inner king. The Son’s authority, the phrase 'above thy fellows', is your inner sense of being acknowledged by God as inseparable from your true nature. When you dwell in this alignment, external appearances become secondary; you move as the one assured of favor, guided by wisdom, and buoyed by unshakable joy. Your imagination serves as the anointing: through imagining the right state, you baptize your I AM with gladness, making the inner state your outer experience. The more you maintain this, the more your thoughts and feelings reflect the divine acceptance, until it feels like you are already seated with authority in the presence of God.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and repeat, 'I am the I AM loving righteousness and hating iniquity.' Then imagine a warm oil of gladness pouring over your head, filling your mind and heart with a buoyant certainty that you are God's beloved and governed by divine joy.
