Biblical Context
God speaks to Zerubbabel and Joshua, urging them to rebuild the LORD’s house. The people neglect the temple, suffer drought and lack until they obey and begin the work, with God stirring their spirits.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this story the temple is not a pile of stones but the state of your consciousness. The complaint 'the time is not come' mirrors a mind that postpones true worship. 'Consider your ways' is a grace note pointing you to audit your inner life—where you seek life apart from the divine presence. You sow much and reap little because you decorate your own houses while the house of God lies waste; this is the drought of the soul. The mountain climb to bring wood is an invitation to ascend in imagination to supply the spiritual substance with which you build. When you obey the LORD and accept, 'I am with you,' the Spirit stirs—your energy, faith, and resolve align, and you move to build the inner temple. The outside becomes a reflection of this inner alignment: dew returns, fruit ripens, and life glows with the presence you have chosen to acknowledge.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and declare, I am rebuilding the temple of God within me now. Imagine clearing mental clutter, lighting the inner room with gratitude, and feeling the presence of God rise in your life.
