Biblical Context
Genesis 6:5-7 shows God observing humanity's continual wickedness of the heart and imagination, grieving, and declaring judgment. It frames the inner state as the cause of outward events.
Neville's Inner Vision
Imagination is God in you; when you see the heart imagining evil, you are living from a disordered state of consciousness. The Lord here is the I AM within, not a distant judge; He grieves because you cling to a pattern that reduces life to fear and separation. The line 'I will destroy' is inner language for letting that pattern pass away so a true possibility can arise. Repentance, in Neville's sense, is revision: you shift your inner narrative, withdraw belief from the old imagination, and consent to a new state that already exists in your mind. The verse invites you to see that your world follows your dominant assumptions. As you persist in imagining the good, you birth a new earth within your consciousness, and thus the outer becomes that reflection. Remember: you are not condemned; you are choosing the state you inhabit. The I AM in you stands ready to be sovereign—hold fast to the end you desire and let your feeling fill the scene.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and revise the dominant thought pattern from 'evil' to 'good' by silently affirming, 'I am the I AM; I already live in the state of fullness.' Then, dwell in the feeling that this is real in the present moment.
