Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Joseph is told his father is sick and comes with his two sons. Jacob is told Joseph is coming and strengthens himself to sit up on the bed.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider Genesis 48:1-2 as a doorway into your inner room. Jacob's sickness is a momentary belief in limitation, the mind telling you you are not complete. When Joseph brings Manasseh and Ephraim, you are witnessing the arrival of new faculties—the future becomes present in your awareness. Jacob strengthened himself—not by willpower alone, but by a decision in consciousness: I am here, I am whole, I am the I AM that has no opposite. He sits upon the bed—the symbol of a fixed point in awareness. The words Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed imply you choose to center your attention, to rely on the immutable consciousness within, rather than the fluctuating appearances. Jacob blesses the sons; the presence of God manifests as the blessing of new possibilities for the line and the self. So, your inner world, when you imagine the names Manasseh and Ephraim as your states of mind, reveals a future reality entering your present. The sickbed becomes a throne when you recognize that consciousness is the healer and the doer, and the future you seek is already by your side in the grand procession of your inner family.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, imagine you are on Jacob's bed and declare, I am whole. See two figures—Manasseh and Ephraim—approach as your new faculties, and welcome them as present blessings.
