Scripture Focus

5And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
Genesis 35:5-6

Biblical Context

The surrounding cities are engulfed in the terror of God, causing them to refrain from pursuing Jacob; Jacob and his company then arrive at Luz, Bethel, in the land of Canaan.

Neville's Inner Vision

To the Neville reader, the 'terror of God' upon the cities is not dread from without but the awakening awe within: the I AM that you are becomes so vivid that the external conditions reluctant to encroach. The cities around you represent states of consciousness that would harass your unfoldment; yet when you align with the truth 'I am', their pursuit ceases. The journey is a journey of inner settlement, not geography; the road to Luz, Bethel, is the return to the home-state of awareness, where God meets man as companion and guide. The land of Canaan and Bethel symbolize your realized self, the covenant of presence you keep with the divine within. The terror is the protective, commanding energy of your own invincible awareness that disarms fear and attracts the conditions of safety and prosperity. Your covenant loyalty—staying aligned with I AM—draws the favorable conditions and detours any negative script; you move in harmony with your inner purpose, arriving at your own Bethel where you know you are seen, supported, and provided for.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and rest in the I AM; declare, 'I am protected and guided by God.' Feel the inner protection now and carry that sense into your day as you move toward your Bethel within.
