Gifts Before Esau
Genesis 32:16-19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Genesis 32 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jacob divides his herd into separate droves and instructs his servants to speak a controlled line, presenting the gifts to Esau as a sign of favor. The passage shows the outward arrangement mirroring an inner state of abundance and a reconciled heart.
Neville's Inner Vision
Jacob’s act is not a mere caravan of gifts but a deliberate arrangement of inner states. He divides the outward scene into stations (the droves), placing a measured space between each, so that the outer world might mirror an inner order. In Neville’s psychology, every person and event is a state of consciousness: Esau is not a man separate from you but a face of your own awakening. “Who are these before thee?” asks the inner voice; the reply, “They be thy servant Jacob’s” is your reaffirmation that your life and its meetings are the fruit of your I AM. The trick is to treat wealth, generosity, and the plan of reconciliation as already real within you. By delivering the ‘gifts’ to the outer Esau you are recognizing that the inner posture of abundance has already passed over before, and that you stand behind it in the awareness of the One Self. The space between drives is the discipline that keeps your imagination orderly, so that the event may flow in harmony with your present sense of I AM.
Practice This Now
Practice: In a quiet moment, envision three inner voices lined up with a space between them, with you as the I AM behind them. Speak through the first voice, 'These are thy servant Jacob's gifts,' and rest in the felt sense that reconciliation and provision are already true in you.
