Read Genesis 3 in context

Scripture Focus

23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Genesis 3:23-24

Biblical Context

God banishes Adam from Eden, sending him to till the ground, and places cherubim with a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life.

Neville's Inner Vision

Genesis 3:23-24 presents the outer tale to reveal an inner truth. Eden is a state of consciousness where all life is felt as present; banishment shows you have identified with a self that cannot sustain that life. You, the I AM, may have believed the garden was lost when you opposed the conditions of your old image. The east of the garden is your inward turning toward a renewed center; the cherubim and the flaming sword are the restless habits of thought that guard against re-entering life as you now imagine it. They turn every way, keeping you stuck in the knowledge of lack, as if Life itself were elsewhere. The remedy is to revise the self you are feeding with attention, and to assume the feeling of the life you desire here and now. When you dwell in that assumed state, you pass through the guard and find the tree of life again within, for you have reestablished your awareness as the I AM, not a separate self. The garden returns as soon as consciousness returns to that essential sense of embodiment.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and assume the feeling I AM LIFE NOW. See yourself tilling your inner soil and gathering fruit of wholeness. When guarding thoughts arise, revise them by affirming I AM and dwell in that present reality.
