Biblical Context
Genesis 27:39-40 speaks of dwelling in the fatness of the earth and the dew from heaven; you will live by the sword, serve your brother, and when you gain dominion you will break his yoke.
Neville's Inner Vision
To me, these lines encode the inner law by which consciousness operates. 'Dwelling in the fatness of the earth and the dew from heaven' is not a geography but the atmosphere of belief you cultivate within. When you entertain a state of fullness, your thoughts glitter with the dew of divine remembrance; you feel blessed, secure, and complete. The 'sword' is the instrument of discernment the mind wields to cut away false notions that keep you bound; it is not violence but precise focus of attention. 'Shall live by the sword' means you should rely on the weapon of truthful imagination, not on external conditions for your life. 'Thou shalt serve thy brother' points to the inner brother—the rival ego or lesser self—whom you do not annihilate but guide toward cooperation, acknowledging that all parts of self are steps in the same ascent. When 'the dominion' comes, the old yoke melts away, for dominion is internal sovereignty—one I AM observing from within. The outer scene then aligns, not by struggle, but by the inner alignment of thought and feeling.
Practice This Now
Act: Sit quietly and assume the state of dominion; place a hand on your heart and declare, 'I AM sovereign over my inner world,' then feel abundant conditions blooming around you. Visualize your inner brother bowing to your authority and the yoke dropping away as you continue to imagine this unity.
