Ishmael's Inner Life Journey
Genesis 25:17-18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
It notes Ishmael’s 137 years, his death, and that he was gathered unto his people. It also describes the broad land where his lineage dwelt, before Egypt toward Assyria.
Neville's Inner Vision
Ishmael is not a man alone but a state of consciousness you carry. His years and his passing are but the rhythm of your inner life: when you say yes to a former self, you also say no to the new. The phrase gathered unto his people is your sign that a state returns to its rightful company—the collective of memories you have accepted as normal. The dwelling from Havilah to Shur, before Egypt toward Assyria, is the map of your inner terrain: from the fresh beginnings (Havilah) to the borderlands (Shur), toward the ancient lands you have never fully claimed in awareness (Egypt, Assyria). When it says he died in the presence of all his brethren, it reveals that the old self dissolves not in private but openly, while your whole being bears witness as I AM. In Neville terms, Ishmael’s departure is the departure of a false identity from the stage of your life, released into the bigger theater of consciousness where God, the I AM, is fully present, and all your brethren—your other adopted states—are with you as one presence.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and assume the feeling that you are the I AM, witnessing Ishmael fade. Then dwell across the whole mental landscape and feel your oneness with all your brethren.
