Biblical Context
God tells Abraham to offer his beloved son Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham rises early and obediently goes to the appointed place.
Neville's Inner Vision
Genesis 22:2-3 is a fierce symbol of inner state. The 'son' is the most cherished belief you hold about yourself or your future. The command to go to Moriah is not a demand of a distant ruler; it is the call of the I AM, the covenant within you, to test your loyalty to its truth. Abraham's swift obedience shows you that when you accept the I AM as your only ruler, the outer scene must bow. The ascent up the mountain is an ascent of consciousness: you leave the old self-image on the ground and step into the place your inner guidance names as the 'land of Moriah.' The true sacrifice is relinquishing the attachment to the form Isaac represents, so the living reality of God can reveal itself through you. Faith, then, is the unwavering assumption that the I AM is the truth of you, and that this truth is already fulfilled in spite of appearances. When you hold to that, the test becomes a reorientation toward the real you: the I AM in you.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume you are already on the mountain, with the I AM as your guide, and revise the belief you cling to by saying, 'I release this attachment and accept the I AM as my reality.' Then feel it real by letting a calm certainty rise in you as you walk toward inner guidance.
