Read Genesis 21 in context

Scripture Focus

12And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Genesis 21:12

Biblical Context

God tells Abraham not to be grievous about the lad and the bondwoman; he is to hearken unto Sarah's voice, for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

Neville's Inner Vision

Sarah's voice is the directing whisper of your I AM, the inner authority that makes sense of your life. Abraham's obedience to that voice is your willingness to release the lad and the bondwoman - the old fears and habits you have nurtured - and to listen to the true mother of the promise. In this reading, the covenant is not a distant treaty but a state of consciousness: Isaac is the seed of your imagination when it is made palpable by feeling and attention. To hearken unto Sarah is to align with the present tense of God within you, not to resist the fresh order of your being. The grievance of the outward scene must not grieve you; you revise it by assuming the higher idea and feeling it real. By loyalty to the inner voice, you establish the line of birth - the dream made visible. So walk in the belief that your seed is already named, and let the inner Sarah guide you toward it with quiet trust.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and imagine hearing Sarah's whisper within; respond with, 'Yes, I listen now.' Feel the seed of your promise already formed in your consciousness and rest in that imagined fulfillment.
