Biblical Context
Abraham sits at the tent door and God appears with three visitors. He rises, runs to meet them, and bows, showing hospitality and reverence as a sign of encountering the divine in everyday life.
Neville's Inner Vision
To my ear, the Lord appearing to Abraham is not a past event in a primitive history, but a state of consciousness arising in you when you no longer resist the truth of your own I AM. The plains of Mamre are the wide plain of your awareness; the heat of day is the fatigue of the little self clinging to control. When Abraham lifts his eyes and sees three men, think of them as three aspects of your divine idea—wisdom, courage, and mercy—standing by your door to reveal a higher pattern. The running from the tent door is the irresistible impulse of desire to unite with that divine idea; the bowing is the correct posture of your mind, a surrender of the old self in favor of the truth that you are one with God. In this moment, the visitation is interior; when you acknowledge that God is within your own I AM, your external world begins to reflect that reality. The experience is not external show but the awakening of your inner character to the reality that you are always in fellowship with the divine.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine stepping from your tent into the interior doorway of your consciousness; envision the three messengers as facets of guidance greeting you. Assume the feeling of your I AM presence now, and let humility and reverence align your self-image with divine order.
