Biblical Context
Genesis 17:12-14 commands circumcision as a sign of the everlasting covenant for every male in Abraham's line; the uncircumcised are cut off from the people.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture the rite not as a bodily command, but as a figure of inner birth. The eight-day-old son represents a new birth in awareness, a fresh state of I AM that is ready to accept the covenant. The flesh in the text is the outer sign of inner allegiance; the covenant in your flesh means your life is governed by a constant awareness of I AM. To be circumcised is to surgically remove identification with any belief that you are separate from your divine state—fear, lack, or domination by appearances. The phrase my covenant shall be in your flesh declares that the lasting agreement between you and your true self is a lived condition, not a distant law. If you neglect this inner cutting, you cut yourself off from the community of your true possibilities. The outer ritual points to a perpetual inner practice: keep your consciousness aligned with the I AM and it becomes your flesh, your world, your everlasting sign. Remember, the covenant is not a historical contract but your present state of awareness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In a moment of stillness, assume you are already in the covenant and feel the old fear being cut away from your mind; repeat I AM until the sense of separation dissolves. Let this felt truth linger for several breaths.
