Seed of Presence Within
Genesis 16:9-12 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Genesis 16 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The angelic message to Hagar commands her to return and submit to her situation, while promising a multiplied seed and naming a son Ishmael, because the Lord has heard her distress; the text presents mercy and the birth of a future life within the framework of submission.
Neville's Inner Vision
In your inner geography, the angel of the LORD is a state of awareness speaking to you. When the words say, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands, they invite you to return to your current scene with unwavering acceptance. The promise I will multiply thy seed exceedingly is the law of your consciousness: when you dwell as if your state already contains countless offspring, your world will begin to multiply from that seed. Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. This is not a historical fact but a symbol: your inner state is pregnant with possibilities, and the name Ishmael marks the awakening to the truth that God has heard your cry. He will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. The external world will, in time, bear the fruit of your inner seed among your relations; the mercy is that the I AM has heard you and will bring forth.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes, assume the state of I AM ruling your life, and picture returning to your present situation with full submission. Feel the inner seed already multiplying into outward blessing, and rest in that reality.
