Biblical Context
Abram falls into a deep sleep as darkness surrounds him; God promises that his descendants will endure bondage then be delivered, and then a theophany seals the covenant between the pieces.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice how the 'horror of great darkness' is not power over you but the end of a stale dream in your mind. As you recognize the I AM as your own awareness, the night becomes your interior room where old pictures of lack and fear are stripped away. The 'sun going down' and Abram's sleep mark the moment when the old state yields; the 'horror' is the resistance of the old self to the new I AM reality. Then, between the pieces, the burning lamp and smoking furnace pass—this is the inner demonstration: consciousness passing through the severance of the old self and affirming the covenant with you. The prophecy that the seed will be enslaved and later delivered becomes your own forecast of a transition you must go through in imagination, but on the other side lies great substance. Your peace comes not from external events but from the realization that you are the I AM, and the covenant is already made within your mind.
Practice This Now
In a quiet moment, assume the state 'I AM free now' and revise the scene: the old self is separated, and the lamp of awareness passes between the pieces, sealing a fixed reality of prosperity within your consciousness. Feel it as real for several breaths.
