Read Genesis 1 in context

Scripture Focus

2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:2

Biblical Context

Genesis 1:2 presents the earth as formless and void, with darkness over the deep, while the Spirit of God moves over the waters.

Neville's Inner Vision

Genesis 1:2 invites you to watch the mind before it becomes form. The earth stands for your consciousness in its unformed state; the void is the background of unreconciled beliefs; darkness upon the deep is the stubborn impressions buried within. The Spirit of God moving upon the waters is the I AM—the divine awareness that immediately and intimately attends to your inner sea. When you dwell in that awareness and revise what you hold about yourself, order begins to appear. Creation happens not in some distant world but in your imagination, through a deliberate assumption and the feeling that it is already so. You are the observer who speaks the still, cosmic word and then gazes as form takes shape in your mind's eye. If you permit the Spirit to move, your inner waters settle, and form follows. The key is to acknowledge the I AM as present now, and let its movement rewrite the appearance of void with living form.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume the state of the I AM now. Repeat, 'I AM moving over my inner waters' and feel order rising as a seed taking root in my mind.
