Crucify the Flesh, Live in Spirit
Galatians 5:24-26 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Galatians 5 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage urges crucifying the old, fleshly affections and desires; if you live by Spirit, you should walk by Spirit and refrain from envy and vanity.
Neville's Inner Vision
To know yourself as Christ's is to crucify the flesh with its affections and lusts not by denial, but by clear identification with a higher state. The flesh, in this sense, is a stream of reactions—desire for praise, possession, comparison—that keeps you tethered to illusion. Living in the Spirit means dwelling in the one unchanging I AM, where every sensation, thought, and impulse is observed rather than owned. Walking in the Spirit is a practical translation: let your daily acts, decisions, and words proceed from that inner decree rather than from fear or vanity. When you feel envious or crave vain glory, you are simply witnessing a momentary dream; restore attention to the Spirit, revise the impression, and declare your oneness with the enduring light. By persistently living from the state of awareness that you are, you become that state in expression; your life aligns with truth, and the former cravings fade away as you walk openly in Spirit.
Practice This Now
Close the eyes and affirm, 'I am the Spirit-led self now,' feeling the release of old cravings. When envy or vanity arises, silently bless the other and revise the impression, reaffirming your unity with the Spirit.
