Inner Temple Rebuilt

Ezra 1:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ezra 1 in context

Scripture Focus

1Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
2Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
3Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.
4And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.
Ezra 1:1-4

Biblical Context

Ezra 1:1-4 shows God stirring Cyrus to issue a proclamation that the exiles may return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. It invites all to contribute their means to support true worship.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your outer history mirrors your inner state. The king who stirs is a symbol of your current level of consciousness; when the spirit is awakened, you receive a decree to rebuild the inner temple. The 'house of the LORD' is the sanctuary of awareness you carry, and the call to 'go up to Jerusalem' is your decision to rise in consciousness and align with your divine purpose. Each person’s contribution—silver, gold, goods, and freewill offerings—is the energy you devote to thoughts, feelings, and actions that support that temple. This is true worship: giving freely to the inner work rather than seeking change from without. The exile becomes a drift of consciousness, and the return is the inner awakening that your God is with you as you decide to construct the sanctuary within. The decree is personal: you are authorized by the I AM to rise; the temple begins the moment you assume its reality in your mind.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare softly: I am the stirring of the I AM; my inner temple is rising now. Feel the calm and offer your thoughts as gold and your gratitude as silver toward the building.
