Vision at the Inner Gate
Ezekiel 8:3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Ezekiel 8 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The prophet is lifted by a spiritual hand to the inner gate in Jerusalem, revealing the seat of an image that provokes jealousy—an inner idol.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of Ezekiel’s ascent as a movement of consciousness, not a road trip. The hand that grips you, the Spirit lifting you between earth and heaven, are inner forces by which your I AM awareness is drawn up to see itself. In Neville’s language, God is the I AM only when you are awake to it; the visions of God are the vivid pictures your imagination creates. The 'door of the inner gate' marks the boundary where ordinary thought yields to a higher state you can enter at will. The 'image of jealousy' sits on the seat of the inner gate—an idol you harbor in secrecy, a mental image that provokes jealousy and measures you against others. When such an idol comes to awareness, you do not argue with it; you revise it by assuming you are already in the presence of God, by feeling the new state as real. Let the Spirit lift you into that higher weather, and accept that your world shifts to reflect your dominant I AM. You are not commanded from without; you are invited, here and now, to dwell in your true Jerusalem of awareness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, bring your attention to the inner gate of your mind, and declare: I AM in the presence of God. When the image of jealousy arises, revise it to a unity with God and feel that new state as real for 2–5 minutes.
