Inner Temple Awakening: Ezekiel

Ezekiel 8:16-17 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ezekiel 8 in context

Scripture Focus

16And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.
17Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
Ezekiel 8:16-17

Biblical Context

Ezekiel 8:16-17 depicts leaders with their backs to the temple, facing east to worship the sun, illustrating outward ritual without inward devotion.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Ezekiel, the inner court is your conscious life; the sight of twenty-five men worshiping toward the east reveals how the human mind often turns away from the living I AM in order to play at religion. In Neville's key, these faces turned east are faces turned toward imagined light—toward a sun of personal glory—while the back is toward the temple inside. The scene is a dream of your own soul: when you identify with outward forms instead of the I AM within, you 'provoke' God to anger by clinging to violence in thought and deed. The remedy is simple: you change the story by assuming the I AM now. The sun you worship is only a belief you have given power; you can dissolve it by insisting that your awareness is the temple and the source of all activity. Declare to yourself: I am the temple; I am the light that never fails; let every action spring from that consciousness. As you do, the inner court brightens, judgments dissolve, and the sense of being guided by a higher order awakens in you.

Practice This Now

Practice: sit quietly, breathe, and repeat 'I AM' while envisioning the inner temple of your consciousness; turn your attention from the eastward sun to the I AM within and feel that you are already that temple.
