Inner Shepherds and the Flock
Ezekiel 34:8-10 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Ezekiel 34 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The Lord declares that neglectful shepherds let the flock be prey and feed themselves instead of the flock. He vows to hold them accountable and deliver the flock from their control.
Neville's Inner Vision
Because you are the I AM aware, the flock of your mind becomes prey when you permit incompetent or greedy thoughts to govern your inner life. The shepherds are the habits and beliefs that preside over your consciousness; when they feed themselves and not the flock, your whole being suffers. Ezekiel tells you, 'Behold, I am against the shepherds,' which in your terms means a turning of attention away from the false rulers within you. In truth there is no outer judge; there is only your state of consciousness, the quiet shepherd in the temple of your own awareness. When you discover that you have allowed fear, appetite, or vanity to lead, you can revise. The 'deliver the flock from their mouth' is your awakening to responsibility for your inner climate— to replace self-centered discourse with a new vision in which your I AM feeds the whole flock of faculties: memory, imagination, love, and purpose. You are not a passive vessel; you are the ruler who can reconstruct the flock by choosing what thoughts deserve to feed it. The outcome will swiftly follow the shift in your inner state.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the role of the good shepherd in your mind and revise the belief that your flock is endangered; declare a new feeding order where awareness nourishes all faculties. Feel it real by resting in inner calm for a minute, sensing the flock perk up as you guide your thoughts.
