Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Plain summary: God declares judgment that will profane the sanctuary and strip outward signs of strength, while also forbidding common mourning rituals, signaling an inner reckoning. The passage points to an inner discipline over external custom.
Neville's Inner Vision
Inside the verse, the sanctuary is your own awareness. When God says He will profane it, see it as the clearing of false images—stories of strength, titles, and attachments—that you have mistaken for reality. The 'excellency of your strength' and the 'desire of your eyes' are inner images that you must loosen, not punish yourself for; allow the inner fire to refine them until what remains is pure consciousness. The directive 'you shall do as I have done' becomes an invitation to imitate the divine act of self-purification rather than outward ritual. Do not look for lips to cover or bread from men; this is a symbol of external feeds and speech. In the inner scene, release dependence on other voices and nourish yourself from I AM alone, letting the light of awareness purify the heart. The tires on your head and shoes on your feet symbolize habits of display; in the silence of true repentance they fall away, and you stand present and unembellished. What remains is a genuine mourning that repents of separation, not a ritual of sorrow toward others.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the state of I AM as your sanctuary now. Close your eyes, breathe, and feel the inner sanctuary purify your attachments; revise any belief that you need external signs to be whole, and feel it real that you are restored by the I AM.
