Exodus 40:4

Biblical Context

Exodus 40:4 commands bringing in the table and lighting the lamps, symbolizing the orderly arrangement and illumination of the inner life.

Neville's Inner Vision

I see the command as a map of your inner dwelling. You are told to bring in the table and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it—the beliefs, assumptions, and intentions by which you live. Then you bring in the candlestick and light the lamps thereof. The table is not furniture; it is the arrangement of your mind's wares, and the lamp is your imagination lit with the feeling of your wish fulfilled. When you arrange, you align each item with the state you will to inhabit. When you light the lamps, you illuminate possibilities with the certainty that you are now the I AM, and God within responds. This practice is ritualized worship, not of outward tradition but of inner truth: you separate from lower states, cultivate covenant loyalty to your desired state, and invite divine presence into daily experience. As you dwell in that light, your outer world becomes consistent with your inner image.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and mentally place a table before you; on it, arrange your current beliefs as if they must stand in order, then light a lamp and feel the I AM presence illuminating every corner; remain in that feeling until it becomes your normal state.
