Biblical Context
Exodus 37:9 describes the cherubim with wings spread over the mercy seat, facing inward toward the sacred place, signaling God's holy presence.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider the scene as a drama of inner consciousness. The cherubim are not outside beings but the two wings of your own awareness, spreading wide to cover the sacred seat within. The mercy seat is the I AM—your steady sense of 'I am' that remains untouched by fear or lack. When the wings arch high and cover the mercy seat, the faces turning toward one another signal the unity of attention and intention: no aspect of your life is allowed to declare itself apart from the sanctuary of awareness. The holiness is not a distant ritual but a state you enter by confidence that you are already in the presence; separation is simply the boundary you set to keep the sacred space intact from the noise of distraction. Mercy and compassion arise as you let the inner movement flow from this habitation of God—the I AM—toward every thought, feeling, and image. True worship, then, is the living conviction that God is within you and around you, and that your imagination can align with that reality here and now.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, breathe, place attention at your heart, and imagine wings of light shielding a radiant mercy seat. Repeat 'I AM' and feel the Presence now.
