Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
God commands the people to observe His commands, drive out the inhabitants, avoid covenants that trap them, and destroy their altars, images, and groves.
Neville's Inner Vision
The passage invites you to cleanse your inner life rather than wage war in the outer world. The listed peoples represent recurring states of consciousness and fear you have allowed within the psyche. When you refuse to covenant with these inner inhabitants, you cut off their power to disturb your awareness. Destroying their altars, breaking their images, and cutting down their groves symbolize the inner revision of beliefs and the release from habitual images that worship separation or lack. The command to separate is a discipline of alignment with the I AM—the unchanging awareness that cannot be divided. By choosing to see yourself as already free and whole, you erase the sense of lack and invite true worship to arise from your inner sanctuary. This is not conquest of others but conquest of the mind—an awakening to the one worship within, which transcends appearances and remains ever-present as your essential I AM.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and, in your imagination, declare: I drive out every fear and idol from my inner land, and I replace them with one altar of awareness. Then feel the truth of your worship right now as real.
