Biblical Context
Exodus 33:19-23 presents God’s goodness passing before Moses. A limitation is that no man can see His face and live, yet a rock-like refuge is provided where the divine glory reveals itself in part.
Neville's Inner Vision
Viewed through Neville’s lens, Exodus 33:19–23 reveals that God is the I AM within your own consciousness, and its goodness can pass before you as you imagine. The proclamation of the LORD’s name is your act of naming and thus becoming the very awareness that sees; mercy and grace are not distant favors but states you choose to inhabit. The line that no man may see His face defines the ego’s limit when faced with unconditioned Being, yet there remains a 'place by me' and a 'rock'—an unshakable stance of consciousness where the divine glory can pass by without overwhelming the old self. As the glory passes, you are shielded and given glimpses—the back parts—of the Presence, enough to know that Reality remains after the drama. Your day-to-day life is transformed by living from that rock-state, where mercy is present and the good you seek is already seen by your inner sight.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes, lift your attention to the rock of your conscious awareness, and assume the state of the I AM already aware of grace; feel the goodness passing before you and dwell in mercy as your present reality.
