Guarding The Inner Land

Exodus 23:33 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Exodus 23 in context

Scripture Focus

33They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.
Exodus 23:33

Biblical Context

Exodus 23:33 cautions to keep the land free of those who would lead you to other gods, lest you fall into sin; it calls for obedience to true worship and faithfulness to the divine.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your land is the consciousness you dwell in, and the strangers are thoughts, habits, or beliefs that do not belong to your I AM. When you allow a foreign image to take root, you invite a god that cannot save you from sorrow; you invite a snare. The command is not about geography but about allegiance: keep your attention and affection anchored in the awareness that you are the I AM, and let all else be mere appearance. If a thought or tendency arises that would pull you toward another 'god,' revise it by affirming, I am the Lord of this mind; I worship only the I AM. Feel it as real by dwelling in that state, imagining the mind as a secure land that cannot be swayed by borrowed rites. As you maintain this inner boundary, your life reflects a faithful worship—obedience to your divine nature—so that what you experience harmonizes with the truth you hold in consciousness. The danger is subtle; the correction is simple: return, assume, and feel it real.

Practice This Now

Assume you are already living in a land ruled by the I AM. When a foreign influence appears, revise by closing the gates and declaring, 'I am the I AM; I dwell in no other god.'
