Biblical Context
Exodus 21:7-11 describes a man selling his daughter as a maidservant, with protections: if she displeases the master, she can be redeemed; if betrothed to his son, she is to be treated as a daughter; if he takes another wife, her sustenance and rights are maintained; and if these duties are not observed, she goes free.
Neville's Inner Vision
Viewed as a map of your inner world, the 'maidservant' becomes a fragment of consciousness pledged to a limiting belief that you have allowed to govern you. The text’s offer of redemption when she displeases the master reveals that no belief must imprison you forever; you can reimagine the situation by turning your attention to I AM, the true master, and affirm that you redeem and restore any part of you bound by fear or lack. When she is betrothed to the master's son, treat her as a daughter—this invites you to honor the relationships within your mind, giving each inner aspect due care and recognizing its divine nature. If another wife enters, providing food, clothing, and the duty of marriage for her does not diminish the first inner state; you must nourish every part with steady, harmonious support. If you neglect these three, you release that part into freedom—so you choose to remain in covenant by sustaining awareness, intention, and compassionate handling of your inner life. The master you seek is the I AM; through it you redeem, nourish, and uphold your inner kingdom.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In the next few minutes, close your eyes and affirm, 'I am the master of my mind; I redeem and nourish every part of my consciousness.' Then visualize offering food, clothing, and a steady vow of harmony to the inner state, feeling it as real now.
