Exodus 17:4-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Exodus 17 in context

Scripture Focus

4And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
5And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
6Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Exodus 17:4-6

Biblical Context

Moses pleads with God for guidance as the people threaten to stone him. God directs him to go before the people with the elders and his rod, strike the rock, and water will come so the people may drink.

Neville's Inner Vision

On the level of inner life, the crowd before you is not a mob outside, but the storm of thoughts that besiege your purpose. Moses represents your decision to act from faith when fear arises. When he asks what to do, the I AM answers: advance, bring your faithful companions (the elders) and your rod—your crystallized intention—into an outward act. The rock upon Horeb is not a cliff; it is the unshakable Presence you are. When you strike the rock through faith — not by fear, but by habitual, imaginative assumption — water flows as the living stream of supply. The miracle is not in the natural world but in the alignment of your inner state with truth. The outer event of provision follows as the natural expression of that alignment. So you stand on your rock, speak from I AM, and your inner stream nourishes the whole inner camp.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and assume you stand on the inner rock with your rod of faith. Feel the water of life flowing within you, as your need is already met.
