Exodus 13:14

Biblical Context

Exodus 13:14 speaks of teaching the child about the remembering of deliverance: when asked, tell of how a mighty power freed us from bondage. In Neville’s sense, the 'hand' is the power of awareness that frees you from mental slavery.

Neville's Inner Vision

In your inner weather, the 'son' who asks is your own inner questioning, the impulse to know what this practice is. When the question arises, you answer from the memory of a deliverance that is not past but present in consciousness: the Lord’s strong hand is the I AM within you, and it has already freed you from bondage to lack, fear, and limitation. Exodus 13:14 then becomes a manual for present imagination: the exodus is not something God did afar off, but what your awareness does when it refuses to identify with bondage. The "Egypt" you leave is the old story you once believed about yourself; the crossing of the Red Sea is the moment you step into the stream of consciousness where you know you are the one who rules your life by inner decree. The child’s question awakens this memory, and your answer affirms your sovereignty: you are saved by the strength of your own I AM.

Practice This Now

Assume you are already free and feel the I AM lifting you from bondage. Repeat, 'By the strength of the I AM I am delivered,' until this feeling sits as your present reality.
