Read Exodus 1 in context

Scripture Focus

17But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
Exodus 1:17

Biblical Context

The midwives feared God, disobeyed Pharaoh’s command, and saved the male infants.

Neville's Inner Vision

Fear of God becomes reverent awareness—the I AM within. The king’s command is an outer decree that would curtail life; the midwives answer with an inner law: mercy and faithful love. They do not disobey the letter of a tyranny; they obey the higher law that every life is divine, and so they choose life over fear. In Neville terms, they do not change the world by force, but by the state of consciousness they inhabit. Their act is not rebellion against Pharaoh but alignment with the Life that animates all; thus their deed births a new possibility that the appearance of Egypt cannot suppress. When you recognize your own I AM as the governor of experience, you will see that what seems a commanded outcome can be revised at the level of consciousness. The life the midwives preserve is not merely infant bodies but the potential that every birth represents in your life—new projects, relationships, and gifts awakening under mercy. The decree of death dissolves in the certainty that you are life and law, and your acts of mercy become your acts of faith.

Practice This Now

Assume the role of your inner midwife now: revise any fear-based command by declaring 'I AM LIFE' and feel the truth of that life filling your body; imagine saving a vital project or relationship as a direct expression of your inner mercy.
