Within the scripture, the word 'masters' points not to a social role but to the ruling states of consciousness that each of us holds within. The command to 'do the same things unto them' invites you to bring the same conduct inwardly—to govern your inner relationship with every part of you with forbearance, not threats. Knowing that your Master is in heaven, you realize the I AM—your essential awareness—is the same Source for all parts, and there is no special favoritism in the divine presence. The inner governor is not an external tyrant but a compassionate, lawful administrator who sees through appearances and treats each state with justice. When you align your inner authority with divine fairness, you dissolve the sense of division between 'master' and 'servant' and you awaken to the presence of God in every facet of you. This is righteousness as an inner practice: humility, fidelity, and unmanipulative care for all states of consciousness. The result is unity: a steady, fearless, forbearant governance that mirrors the heaven within.
