Wash of the Inner Word

Ephesians 5:26-27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ephesians 5 in context

Scripture Focus

26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:26-27

Biblical Context

The passage presents a cleansing process where the 'water by the word' purifies the church, making it holy and free from blemishes.

Neville's Inner Vision

Within this line of scripture, the washing of water by the word is not a ritual performed upon an external church, but a cleansing of consciousness. The word is the living I AM—the self-awareness by which I declare, here and now, I am. As I imagine, the inner church is presented to the Self as glorious, devoid of spots or wrinkles, through a continuous bath of inner attention. Cleansing happens as I guard the meanings I dwell upon and allow to flow. By identifying with the I AM, I permit the inner state to refine until holiness is a felt reality, not a goal imposed from without. I am not seeking improvement of the church; I am aligning with its true essence and letting awareness wash away false stories, revealing a spotless, radiant within. This sanctification flows from within, through the meaning I give to my life in the present moment.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the I AM now; feel the water of the word washing away old beliefs. Revise 'I am unworthy' into 'I am holy and without blemish' until it feels real.
