Inner Sanctification of Love

Ephesians 5:25-27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ephesians 5 in context

Scripture Focus

25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-27

Biblical Context

Husbands are urged to love selflessly, as Christ loves the church, sacrificing self for its good. This love sanctifies and cleanses via the word, aiming to present a holy, blemish-free body.

Neville's Inner Vision

To Neville, the husband is the ruling I AM—the inner awareness that governs your life. The church is your entire inner life, the temple of your consciousness. Christ’s gift of himself points to an inner act of identification: you surrender fear, lack, and separation for the life of your inner church. The washing of water by the word becomes the cleansing power of a spoken decree, the word you dwell in until it becomes the very texture of your being. When you love from that state—being the I AM, the perceiver—you remove spots and wrinkles by the act of affirming a new impression. The goal is a glorious, holy consciousness not blemished by doubt, because you have chosen a state of grace and let it inform every moment. This is not effort to fix externals, but a revision of the inner record until the outer world follows the inner sight.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume the state of being loved by the I AM. Repeat the decree I am sanctified by the word, and feel it real as you envision your inner church shining spotless; carry that image with you throughout the day, revising any sense of flaw to match the state you have assumed.
