Alive to the Eternal I Am
Ecclesiastes 9:5 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Ecclesiastes 9 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The verse contrasts the living who know they shall die with the dead who know nothing and are forgotten. It points to the fading of memory as a lesson on time and what we value.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within the believer's consciousness, death is not the end but the shedding of an old identity. The 'living' are those who stay awake in the I AM, the awareness that never dies; the 'dead' are worn-out images, fears, and former selves that no longer hold reality. Ecclesiastes speaks of memory forgotten, urging us to release the past and its rewards so the soul can move freely in the light of now. When I imagine I am always the I AM, I refuse to anchor value in a fading form or external result. The only true reward is the steady realization that perceiver and perceived are one; the past is a dream within consciousness, not a law for the next act. Therefore, cultivate the habit of living as the constant awareness, choosing to feel as if the future you seek already exists within you. The moment you accept this inner state as your true reality, fear of death dissolves and wisdom governs your choices with fidelity.
Practice This Now
Assume the I AM as your permanent, living state and revise the sense of self as a temporary form. Feel it real now by silently affirming, 'I am the eternal consciousness that never dies, and all memory of past selves fades into this present awareness.'
