Present Sight, Quiet Desires

Ecclesiastes 6:9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ecclesiastes 6 in context

Scripture Focus

9Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
Ecclesiastes 6:9

Biblical Context

The verse teaches that it is better to accept the reality you can see than to let your desires wander; chasing desires leads to vanity and spiritual agitation.

Neville's Inner Vision

Better is the sight of the present moment than the wandering of desire, for the I AM does not move in pursuit but rests in its own seeing. When you know that you are consciousness, the seen as it is becomes sufficient; the restless fantasy of what might be fades as you choose to dwell in what is now. Desiring is simply the imagination running ahead of itself, a vanity that drains spirit because it leaves the inner world unsettled. Yet imagination, rightly employed, is the very means by which reality is formed: envision the end in the light of your I AM, and let the end color the present. Do not fight the impulse to desire; rather, invert it by fixing attention on the immediate sight and declaring I am that which sees; I am content. In that acceptance, the inner movement shifts, and what you seek appears as a natural expression of your present self-awareness.

Practice This Now

Practice: In moments of longing, close your eyes, breathe, and silently assume the feeling I am content with what is seen. Persist until the restlessness gives way to rest in the present.
