Inner Wealth and Rest

Ecclesiastes 6:2-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ecclesiastes 6 in context

Scripture Focus

2A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
3If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.
4For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.
5Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.
6Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?
Ecclesiastes 6:2-6

Biblical Context

The passage notes that wealth and long life can still leave the soul empty, for true nourishment comes from inner good rather than outward riches.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the inner sense, Ecclesiastes 6:2-6 speaks not of external kingdoms but of your state of consciousness. God gives riches, honours, and desires; yet the true eating is not the outward feast. If your soul is not filled with good, the external abundance becomes a stranger feeding on your life, and you move through years in vanity, with your days shrouded in darkness. The doors of rest close when you believe fulfillment lies in form. When you say, 'I have all I desire,' you deny the inner nourishment; when you acknowledge 'I am nourished by the I AM within me,' you feast on divine bread. The 'untimely birth' image marks a life created apart from this awakening; your real birth is awakening to God as your sustenance. The invitation is simple: identify with the I AM that fills all things, not with the hunger that seeks outside. The world will reflect your inward decision.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume the feeling of abundant nourishment now. Sit quietly, repeat 'I am nourished by the abundance of God in me,' and feel the fullness as if you have already eaten.
