Inner Labor, Eternal Return

Ecclesiastes 2:18-21 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus

18Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
19And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
20Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.
21For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
Ecclesiastes 2:18-21

Biblical Context

Ecclesiastes 2:18–21 describes hating the labor done under the sun because it will be left to someone else, and fears that the heir may be wise or foolish. It calls such concerns vanity when measured by external outcomes.

Neville's Inner Vision

Your labor is not merely a product to be handed down or judged by a future heir; it is the movement of consciousness within the I AM. The fear that the next man may be wise or foolish is a reflection of a divided inner state. When you identify with the unconditioned awareness—seeing yourself as the source of all labor and its fruit—you dissolve the vanity of external outcomes. The ‘sun’ of the story represents a limited view; real value comes from inward alignment with wisdom and justice as living states in you, not as possessions or legacies to be bestowed. If you assume and feel the presence of wisdom as your current reality, the outward world naturally reflects that inner state, transforming labor from vain toil into a living expression of your true being. The notion of leaving labor to another vanishes when you realize you are the author of your reality here and now, and wisdom can be lived today, not merely hoped for tomorrow.

Practice This Now

Imaginative_act: Close your eyes and declare, 'I am the wise man now,' and feel the steadiness and clarity of that state, allowing it to permeate your daily actions.
