Read Ecclesiastes 12 in context

Scripture Focus

11The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
Ecclesiastes 12:11

Biblical Context

The wise words act as prods to awaken the mind and as nails that fix communal belief, all under the guidance of the one Shepherd.

Neville's Inner Vision

Remember, the words of the wise are not out there on a shelf; they are the movements of your own consciousness. They come as goads, stirring you from sleep into the bright immediate reality of I AM. Each suggested principle—prudence, truth, obedience—acts to prod you into a clearer seeing of what you are choosing to identify with. And the nails fastened by the masters of assemblies are the habitual beliefs hammered into your inner room by the many voices you have learned to trust. They seem solid, but they are simply collective agreements your mind has consented to accept. They are given from one shepherd—the calling of unity, your own single, all-embracing awareness. When you perceive that the goads and the nails derive from your own state, you can revise them by shifting your state of consciousness. Reinstate the inner ruler, the I AM, as the authoritative source. Let the old social nails fall away as you anchor new truths in the living present of awareness.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, breathe, and revise one belief by affirming I AM the Shepherd of my mind; the wise words are my own goads to awakening. Feel it real by imagining the goad nudging you toward a vivid present.
