Biblical Context
Ecclesiastes 10:8-11 warns that careless actions and poor discernment invite trouble; true safety comes from directing one's mind with wisdom, not bending to empty talk or enchanted appearances.
Neville's Inner Vision
All four lines reveal the inward law: your state of consciousness fashions outward risk or safety. When you dig a pit in your mind by imagining doom, you fall into it, for the I AM that you are births your scenes. Break the hedge of disciplined thought and a serpent of old habits will bite you, not by magic but through untended inner garden. To remove stones and cleave wood in your inner workshop invites harm if your awareness is dull, for the edge of perception must be kept keen by attention and reverence. If the iron is blunt and you refuse to whet it, you labor in vain; yet wisdom is the art of directing your aim, and this directing comes from within—the inner physician, the purer imagination that knows where to strike and when to pause. The serpent bites without enchantment because enchantment is forgetfulness of the I AM, and the babbler serves only when inner talk is true, precise, and loving. Remember: the I AM within you is the thinker, doer, and judge; revise your inner narrative and let wisdom guide your actions, not fear or empty speech.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, assume the I AM is guiding your hands, and declare, 'I am directed by divine wisdom; I choose my actions with care and sharpen my inner tools.' Visualize a transparent hedge around your thoughts and feel your discernment sharpen as you move through the day.
