Edge of Wisdom Within

Ecclesiastes 10:10-11 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Ecclesiastes 10 in context

Scripture Focus

10If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
11Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.
Ecclesiastes 10:10-11

Biblical Context

The passage shows that effort without sharpening fails; wisdom directs action. It also warns that without proper enchantment (discernment), dangers bite, and a babbler serves no better.

Neville's Inner Vision

To the awakened I AM, the blade is your focus of attention. The blunt iron is a mind not sharpened by conscious assumption; if you do not whet the edge with deliberate feeling and revision, you will strain yourself in vain. Yet wisdom is profitable to direct: when you align your inner state with a clear aim, your actions become effortless, and results unfold with less struggle. The 'serpent' and 'babbler' speak to noisy outward conditions and a mind addicted to chatter; when you live as awareness, events bend to your inner decree rather than bite you from behind. The law is not out there, but within; you are the power that enchants or renders harmless the world by how you imagine and feel. Each thought is a key; each feeling a direction. By choosing a state that already has the edge, you become the one who finds the right tool for the task, and the world obeys the quiet authority of your I AM.

Practice This Now

Assume the blade is sharp now. For the next 24 hours, when you feel the urge to push through with brute effort or to talk idly, pause, close your eyes, and say, 'The edge is sharp, and wisdom directs my steps.' See in your mind's eye the blade gliding cleanly through tasks you face.
