Biblical Context
Ecclesiastes 1:16-18 shows a speaker claiming great wisdom, then discovering that much wisdom brings vexation of spirit. Knowledge amplifies sorrow when the mind clings to it as self.
Neville's Inner Vision
To hear this is to hear the anatomy of consciousness. The 'great estate' and the claim of superior wisdom are not outer possessions but inner states you have consented to as real. When you say, 'I have gained wisdom,' you are naming a vibrational condition, and as you dwell in it you invite the drama of thought—wisdom and folly—into the stage of your mind. The verse's declaration that 'in much wisdom is much grief' is a reminder that the mind, when it identifies with ideas, magnifies every shade of experience. In Neville’s terms, the remedy is to shift attention from the content of thought to the knower—the I AM that perceives. When you affirm that you are already the I AM, you place yourself outside the storm and let the inner state revise appearances without resistance. Thus wisdom becomes a quiet, abiding awareness rather than a competitive possession. Practice from within: assume the feeling of abundant inner wisdom and peace, and let outer circumstances reflect that unshaken sense of self.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Close your eyes and declare, I am the I AM, already wise and at peace. Feel this as real in your chest, and let the sense of lack dissolve as you continue to acknowledge it.
