Inner Covenant Walk

Deuteronomy 8:1-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Deuteronomy 8 in context

Scripture Focus

1All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers.
2And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.
3And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
4Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
5Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
6Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
Deuteronomy 8:1-6

Biblical Context

The commandments are to be observed to live, multiply, and possess the land given by God; God led you into the wilderness to humble and test your heart.

Neville's Inner Vision

In my language, the commandments are inner commands of the I AM toward a state of living awareness. The wilderness seasons are the mind’s testing ground, where my old self is humbled and my heart’s motives are proven. The manna is the inner supply that tells me true sustenance comes from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God—the Word I imagine into form. The clothes and feet that stay unwearied show the stability of the state I have chosen. As a loving father disciplines his child, my own mind disciplines fear and attachment, guiding me to walk in the ways of the Lord within me. The land I possess is the inner state I now claim as real; obedience equals constant memory of that state and fidelity to its law.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and imagine the land already yours; say, 'I am living in the land now by the command of my I AM' and feel the assurance settle into your body. Continue to breathe and revise any lack until the sense of fulfillment is vivid.
